Local business and community leaders who have graciously agreed to dance in our 2012 dance competition:

Steve_Kelly_Pic.jpg  Steve Kelly is the Captain of Emergency Medical Services for the West Chester Fire Department. He has been with the fire department since 1996 and continually works to provide the highest quality emergency medical care to the residents and businesses of West Chester.  He is certified as a Paramedic and Firefighter with the State of Ohio and also a state EMS and Fire Instructor.  Steve enjoys teaching up-and-coming firefighters and paramedics in his spare time.  Captain Kelly enjoys the challenges of public service and the constantly changing environment of emergency services. Each day really is a new experience for him.

Steve grew up outside of Detroit and transplanted to Cincinnati in 1995, which has been one of the best decisions of his life.  He met his wife Jennifer on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend in 2002 and Steve is now a proud husband and father of two beautiful daughters, Cecilia and Caitlin. Steve’s family has lived in Mason since 2000 and enjoys the challenges of continually updating and remodeling their older house. They also enjoy traveling as a family and just returned from an East Coast trip to Massachusetts for a family reunion this past fall where the girls got to see the ocean and the beach for the first time!

Currently Steve is enrolled in a graduate program at Northern Kentucky University pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.  His family has been a great support as he attends class on campus two nights each week.  Captain Kelly’s goal is to have his degree completed by the end of the fall term in 2012 and then take a long vacation with the family to show his thanks and to celebrate! Dancing the Night Away gives Steve an excuse to take classes in a subject that is very foreign to him and currently not offered as part of a Master’s Degree, so he’s looking forward to learning a new skill that he can use to impress his wife!

schnabl_540_for_email_resized.JPG  Steve Schnabl is the CEO of Partners in Prime, a Butler County social service organization focused on our area’s older adults.  The agency manages the West Chester Activity Center (the former library location) on Cox Road where the West Chester Symphony has its practice sessions.  He has been working to address the needs of area seniors since starting with Partners in 1998.  Prior to that, he directed The Arc Hamilton County in Cincinnati, an agency that served people with developmental delays.

Steve has lived most of his life in Butler County and his father was a musician, music teacher and performer.  Steve was exposed to all types of music and various instruments from the time he was very young, but he says that the thing he can play the best himself is the radio.  A Baby Boomer, he hasn’t yet got an IPOD, but knows it would be packed if he did.  He is also well aware that dance is an excellent exercise opportunity.

Steve and his wife Jan Elzey live in Oxford.  They have three adult children and four grandchildren, two who live in Oxford and two in Minneapolis.  He hopes that they all can be impressed by his skills in this competition!

Barb_001.jpg  Barbara Wilson is the public information & marketing officer for West Chester Township overseeing the Township’s website, community events and marketing efforts.  Barb oversees events on The Square @ Union Centre, including the First Financial Bank After-Hours on The Square, and the Fifth Third West Chester Concert Series at Keehner Park.  She began working for the Township 12 years ago as an independent contractor writing the Township’s quarterly newsletter and grant applications and then went on to be Events Coordinator for West Chester. In her position as public information & marketing officer, Barb enjoys communicating with residents and businesses and sharing all of the great attributes of the community.

Barb moved to West Chester 16 years ago with her husband and two sons. Her husband of 22 years, Ted Wilson, is an executive producer with WCPO Channel 9. Oldest son Rob graduated from Lakota East High School in 2010 and is now a sophomore studying criminal justice at Bowling Green State University. Younger son Tim is a junior at Lakota East High School. Both boys have been active in the Lakota East music program playing with the award-winning superior Marching Thunderhawks. Barb is an active member of the Lakota East Upbeat Club having coordinated marching band camp for the past two years. She enjoys gardening, reading, and now – dancing!

Janelle_Lee_bio.jpg Janelle M. Lee is the Uptown Consortium's Director of Business and Community Affairs. She has been with the Consortium since its inception in 2004. Janelle is responsible for managing the human resource functions of Uptown Consortium and serves as the community affairs liaison to the Uptown neighborhoods. Janelle collaborates with community representatives to plan events in Uptown, assists small businesses in developing retention plans, and oversees the Green Initiatives and Shop Local Committees.

Prior to joining the Consortium, Janelle amassed over two decades of experience, including over 11 years in human resources at the University of Cincinnati and positions at Chiquita Brands International, Inc., Grocery Manufacturers of America, Inc., and Procter & Gamble Company.

Janelle is involved with several community activities. She is a board member for the Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty, Lakota East High School Athletic Booster Organization, Feed The Hungry Project and a Trustee for the Cincinnati Ballet. Janelle has served on the Executive Boards for the Butler County United Way’s Women’s Initiative and Black Career Women (BCW). She is a member of Alpha Tau Nu, Society of Black Women, a Notary Public for the State of Ohio, and a member of the Urban League's African American Leadership Development Program Class XV. Janelle graduated from the University of Cincinnati with an A.A.B. degree.

Janelle has been married to Ralph Lee for 25 years. They have two sons - Cameron is in college and Kyle is a junior at Lakota East High School. Ralph is a former Xavier Hall of Fame basketball player and Janelle is a UC grad, which makes sports season very interesting in their house. They have lived in West Chester for six years.
