Local business and community leaders who have graciously agreed to dance in our 2012 dance competition:
Steve Kelly is the Captain of Emergency Medical Services for the West Chester Fire Department. He has been with the fire department since 1996 and continually works to provide the highest quality emergency medical care to the residents and businesses of West Chester. He is certified as a Paramedic and Firefighter with the State of Ohio and also a state EMS and Fire Instructor. Steve enjoys teaching up-and-coming firefighters and paramedics in his spare time. Captain Kelly enjoys the challenges of public service and the constantly changing environment of emergency services. Each day really is a new experience for him.
Steve grew up outside of Detroit and transplanted to Cincinnati in 1995, which has been one of the best decisions of his life. He met his wife Jennifer on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend in 2002 and Steve is now a proud husband and father of two beautiful daughters, Cecilia and Caitlin. Steve’s family has lived in Mason since 2000 and enjoys the challenges of continually updating and remodeling their older house. They also enjoy traveling as a family and just returned from an East Coast trip to Massachusetts for a family reunion this past fall where the girls got to see the ocean and the beach for the first time!
Currently Steve is enrolled in a graduate program at Northern Kentucky University pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. His family has been a great support as he attends class on campus two nights each week. Captain Kelly’s goal is to have his degree completed by the end of the fall term in 2012 and then take a long vacation with the family to show his thanks and to celebrate! Dancing the Night Away gives Steve an excuse to take classes in a subject that is very foreign to him and currently not offered as part of a Master’s Degree, so he’s looking forward to learning a new skill that he can use to impress his wife!
Steve Schnabl is the CEO of Partners in Prime, a Butler County social service organization focused on our area’s older adults. The agency manages the West Chester Activity Center (the former library location) on Cox Road where the West Chester Symphony has its practice sessions. He has been working to address the needs of area seniors since starting with Partners in 1998. Prior to that, he directed The Arc Hamilton County in Cincinnati, an agency that served people with developmental delays.
Steve has lived most of his life in Butler County and his father was a musician, music teacher and performer. Steve was exposed to all types of music and various instruments from the time he was very young, but he says that the thing he can play the best himself is the radio. A Baby Boomer, he hasn’t yet got an IPOD, but knows it would be packed if he did. He is also well aware that dance is an excellent exercise opportunity.
Steve and his wife Jan Elzey live in Oxford. They have three adult children and four grandchildren, two who live in Oxford and two in Minneapolis. He hopes that they all can be impressed by his skills in this competition!
